We’re advocating for the appointment of a Chief Midwifery Officer in every country and we need your help.
Maternity & Midwifery Forum are delighted to support the World Health Organisation’s “Year of the Nurse and Midwife”. We believe midwives play a crucial role in the safe delivery of newborn babies and wish to see greater focus on the improved access to midwifery services across the world.
In 2019 the UK Department of Health and Social care created the position of Chief Midwifery Officer for England, appointing Professor Jacqueline Dunkley-Bent OBE to the role.
This was a significant and vital step towards recognising and strengthening midwifery leadership at all levels in the NHS with the goal of developing of measures aimed at increasing the quality and safety of maternity care.
This is the kind of best practice we want to see rolled out around the world.
