How can all women be given the choice and the options?

In a week of fevered speculation about how Archie, the son of the Duchess of Sussex’s was to be born it was clear that, whatever finally happened, whether it was a home birth or at the private Portland Hospital, the Duchess had informed choice and the infrastructure to make it work.

Follow the story of the Halcyon Centre which was lauded for its work nationally and internationally, normal birth in a supported setting, but is now closed.

Jo Dagustun, Volunteer, Association for Improvements in the Maternity Services (AIMS) and Elsie Gayle, Midwife and Honorary Fellow, University of Wolverhampton, give a presentation on “The Halcyon Closure: A story of women working together to make better births a reality in their community” at the Midlands Maternity & Midwifery Festival 2019.

Find out what happened, were women directed elsewhere, did they know they had the choice, or did they chose to be close to a major acute unit?
