Digital Services in Maternity Care

As part of the Maternity Transformation Programme, NHS Digital has been running four digital maternity projects – taking full advantage of technological innovations and the proliferation of smart phones.  Maternity care is a key area in which digital services are in demand.  The average age of first time mothers is going up but they’re still young compared to most patients with medium-to-long term health conditions (if pregnancy can be described as such); and they’re very able and willing to use technology to help manage the health of both themselves and their baby.

Saadi Hussain of SmartMed Global explains that clinicians around the world have asked for digital health platforms to help manage the maternity care they offer.  At the inaugural International Maternity Expo, he discusses the ways that the maternity sector can follow in the footsteps of finance to take its services online.
