Homelessness is a growing public health disaster. Affected individuals have complex comorbidities including substance use, mental illness, and backgrounds of abuse. They experience increased risk of unplanned pregnancy, obstetric complications, postnatal depression and child loss to social services. Healthcare practitioners notoriously struggle to communicate effectively with them. This workshop discusses the issues and strategies for effective care and communication with this group surrounding pregnancy, based on Anna’s award-winning qualitative research.
Anna is passionate about homeless health. She volunteered with the population for 5 years alongside her MPH research, and is finishing her MBChB. She lives in Sheffield with her husband.
