Clinical Academic Doctoral Fellow; Midwife
Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and University of Southampton
Emily Young is a Clinical Doctoral Fellow at the University of Southampton and Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Emily works as a community midwife at a midwifery-led birth centre, while simultaneously completing her PhD. For the past year she has also been sitting as Fitness to Practise panel member for the Nursing and Midwifery Council. Emily is passionate about enhancing women’s psychological wellbeing during pregnancy, birth and the postnatal period. While evaluating a local ‘Confident Birthing’ workshop, Emily soon realised the lack of academic literature tackling this important subject. This inspired her to undertake a PhD research project which aims to improve women’s birth experience and psychological wellbeing which can have a long lasting impact on women and their family’s lives.
