Helen began her nurse training in Dorset in 1983 and qualified as a midwife in 1989. She has extensive clinical experience across all areas of maternity services and has held senior midwifery posts since 2004. Helen has particular interests in promoting normality in childbirth and public health midwifery. She was awarded a Public Health Master’s Degree with Distinction in 2012 by Bournemouth University. In 2013 Helen had the opportunity to work at the Department of Health on the national nursing strategy Compassion in Practice – the 6 C’s and more recently has achieved early adopter status for maternity services across Somerset to take forward the work of the Better Births national maternity transformation programme. She continues to champion developing and improving maternity services for the benefit of women and families.
