Sharon Wood joined the charity CMV Action in October 2015 having previously enjoyed a long(!) career with a variety of charities. For 12 years Sharon was Chief Executive of an umbrella organisation which aims to unite the efforts of epilepsy charities in the UK to raise awareness, reduce stigma and improve services for people with the condition. Prior to that Sharon worked for Barnardo’s, the childcare charity.
Like many people, Sharon had not heard of CMV (Cytomegalovirus) until she became involved with CMV Action, but was immediately surprised and somewhat angered by the lack of knowledge about the virus and its possible consequences for pregnant mums and their babies. She is delighted to have joined a team of people dedicated to changing this and to have the opportunity to speak at the MMB Midwifery Exchange to help raise professional awareness about CMV.
