Julia Brown is a Senior Doula with Bethel Doula Service. She has a background working in the health care sector for over 30 years and is passionate about women’s health and supporting women to breastfeed. She qualified as a nurse in 1986, then went on to do her midwifery, she has a BSc (Hons) in women’s health studies, studied as a Lactation Consultant and an Aromatherapist. Throughout her years working as a community midwife Julia has spent a considerable amount of time working with vulnerable women in inner city Birmingham.
Julia has experience working in public health. Whilst working in public health she made a significant contribution to Birmingham setting up the first breastfeeding peer support service in the West Midlands. Once she left public health Julia went on to work temporarily at Birmingham City University supporting the midwifery tutors and has continued to support both students and newly qualified nurses within the NHS where she currently works part time as a clinical educator.
When she is not working she likes to spend time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoys keeping fit, music and taking on new challenges. Her last challenge was to climb mount Snowden and is working on her next adventure.
